Memories

My adopted niece, Tori has just drawn #40.......this is a long wait but as Ag Kids get their numbers called, they are haltering their new lambs. I'm (along with some others) are waiting with baited breath to see what lamb Tori will get, to work and raise and prepare for her Tomball FFA show. As I wait for information to come over my phone, I start thinking back to the days I was in FFA. This ladies and gentlemen, had to be the best years. I raised lambs, steers, chickens and was on the dairy judging team, and won the American FFA Degree. I'm still waiting for my phone to bing, buzz.....DO SOMETHING ALREADY.

Here it is, #40
What a great smile, thanks for letting me be a part of this again - so many years later.

To my neice, good luck and give them hell in that show ring!!!!!!

Frito

Frito came to us by means of force......if you're reading this HM then yes I'm calling you out!! I believe the words were "Oh he just came right up to us", yes that's what I heard as I'm 209.31 miles from home. Of course my daughter is carrying him around and he's limp as a dish cloth, couldn't have a care in the world and all I can do is start plotting payback - which I'm still working on. So, I'd like to welcome to the farm, Frito.

He was very good on the way home, sleeping most of the way right besides me. When we got home, it wasn't the normal 2 weeks to be welcomed by the other cats......Sheldon accepted him within 24 hours.

Alright, he can stay!!!!

Radar - you will be missed

Radar snuggled with me last night, then woke me to the sound of him helping his 3 legged brother pull the bag of cat treats down off the counter. I know they both worked together to put all those little teeth marks into the bag. This is my last moment with Radar, this will be the last time he would be with his brother Sheldon.
I woke this morning to find Radar had wondered into the road, yet so close to the driveway & had been hit. Radar and Sheldon came to the farm as young brothers.

They were always together even when it was nap time.

As they became older, it didn't matter, they were brothers who loved each other.

Even when Sheldon had his accident and broke his leg, leading to having to have it removed; Radar was never far from his brother.

Radar - you will be missed by us all!

It's Always the Quiet Ones

There's been a spree of murder in a quiet neighborhood. The victims have all been of birds and mice. The alleged suspect is still at large. Friends of the alleged suspect or "Romeo", were found to say this "He never seemed the type to me. I would see him outside but he always looked loveable and would be on his front porch lookin' cute".  If anyone has pet birds or mice, it's advised to keep them inside for their safety. Please take a good look at the mugshot that was just brought in...............

The Chicks Have Escape

I guess when you here the term " home-grown" you expect it to be better than "store-bought". The chicks here at the farm are truely home-grown, why do you ask?? Glad you asked; the now 9 chicks or as I call them "The Click" has figured out a way to get out of their bigger pen. Free range chicks. Can't fence them in. I haven't had a problem like this with other chicks and I believe the reason for that is because The Click are home-grown versus all the other chicks I've ever had being "store-bought". Get It?

So far it's working out ok. The rooster and hens seem to not mind these little rugrats being out in the open with them. Sully (the Dane) and Scarlet (the Basset) also so far (knocking on wood now) haven't decided to see how many licks it takes to give one a heart attack.

I have to say these home-grown chicks have a different look to them. A little of this, a little of that..but that's alright.

Sheldon come home

I was able to pick Sheldon up from the vet today and he's at work with me to make sure meds are taken when they're supposed to be. For only having 3 legs, he sure is getting around the office very well and have my nerves on end. He's on my desk helping me with all the things a full day at the office entitles.

I hope the look on his face is saying pain meds are about to take effect and it'll soon be nap time for Sheldon.
Feel free to send Well Wishes, I'll forward them along to him.

The Eggs Have Hatched

The eggs hatched over the weekend.....all weekend long. We moved them to a bigger pen since a little laying box was getting cramped with 10 chicks.

The Brothers

Shame on me, I just noticed there's two boys missing from the blog; Sheldon and Radar. Two brothers that came to us in Sept of 2011.

Sheldon (left) and Radar (right) are brothers that love each other, fight with each other but are never too far from each other. Sheldon has a blue eye and a green eye while Radar has two green eyes.

Yes they love each other and there's nothing wrong with that. Unfortunately this past weekend while they were outside, Sheldon had an accident and broke his front right leg. Today he had surgery to have his broken leg removed. I've been told by the vet he did really well in surgery and I'm able to pick him up tomorrow as long as all goes well through the night. I hope that the relationship between him and his brother doesn't change once Sheldon returns home. Sheldon will return with 3 legs but as my brother has told me.....he'll fit right in.

A Good Deed Done

Tuesday started off as normal as a day could start. I walk out to start the truck and out of the corner of my eye I see a flash of fur running to the front porch. This is what I see..........
Do you see this? An abandoned, dirty, matted and starving dog. This poor little guy was in set a mess, my heart broke for him. I wrapped him in a towel and off we went. First stop was to the Houston Humane Society but they didn't accept animals until 11:00am. So the little guy got to ride in the truck a little more to work. After a somewhat bath and much much grooming to cut the tangled hair he was begining to become handsome.

I got in touch with Teresa Osborn with the Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue (http://www.shihtzu-rescue.com/) and she was able to take him. He will be shaved and this handsome fella will be up for adoption soon. He's about 9-10 months and I can personal say he is very lovable and eager to have a forever home. Please check out the link for information on Romeo Ranger and other doggies waiting for their forever home.

THIS JUST IN...........

LOOK AT THIS CUTIE PIE!!!!
Yes this is the same dog from the above pictures.

Maggie May - forever in our hearts

Who would have thought that 4 months would make such an impact on our lives. I know that in the short time you were with us; you had the best life. Tonight was horrible knowing we lost you due to a speeding driver. Things won't be the same on the farm without you and you will be forever in our hearts.
